Guidance & Education

• G1. Remind members of score-recording requirements under the World Handicap System.
• G2. Improve member understanding of which rounds not to enter.
• G3. Help members understand how to enter scores for 9 holes vs 10–17 holes vs 18 holes. The best method for each is hole by hole. If you enter a total score, you must enter your “Adjusted Gross Score.” This means you must manually calculate and subtract any strokes that exceeded your maximum allowed score on a hole (Net Double Bogey) before typing in the total number for the round or each nine. Golf is hard enough without trying to use shortcuts that require extra effort.
• G4. Share USGA Handicap education media.
• G5. Clarify match play scoring requirements:
  • If you stop play when the match ends, only enter scores for holes played and WHS will calculate an 18-hole equivalent index for the round.
  • If you continue play after the match ends, then you enter actual scores for each remaining hole and each player has to “hole out” for each of the remaining holes. No concessions can be given.
• G6. Emphasize that members should use the lower of “most likely score” and “net double bogey” when posting scores on holes they start but do not finish (match play and four-ball only).
• G7. Let members know that not completing the scoring of a round, including weekly events, is a “red flag” for not posting scores as required. Members are required by WHS to enter a score into GHIN if they play nine (9) holes or more of an eligible round.
• G8. Revise “Handicap Policies” section on website to reflect relevant changes.
• G9. Explore the possibility of general signage at holes 1, 10, and 18 reminding members to post scores.

Enforcement Measures

• E1. Regularly review individual member posting patterns.
• E2. Conduct regular GHIN player score audits.
• E3. Implement an escalating four-step infraction policy for not posting scores:
  • i) Warning
  • ii) Involuntary score designated with a “P” entered by the Handicap Committee
  • iii) Temporary suspension from all club events
  • iv) Dismissal from the club
  • Players have the right to dispute a warning in person, by phone, or in writing.
• E4. Disqualify members for false posting and or non-posting, including weekly events that a member chooses not to enter into GolfGenius (Members can skip GolfGenius, but still must post in GHIN).
• E5. Encourage members to reach out discreetly to report possible infractions and irregularities for investigation.
